Classes

To view all classes offered (organized by age and level), proceed to Schedule.

Pre-ballet

Intended for preschool and kindergarten students, dancers enrolled in pre-ballet focus on ballet basics, dexterity, and creativity. Pre-ballet is an excellent introduction for children preparing for classical ballet. Dancers develop poise, technique, strength, rhythm, and lyrical movement, as well as studio manners, and self expression. Various props and age appropriate music allow students to use their imagination while learning lively choreography. At this age, focus is on developing large motor skills and coordination through fun activities such as skipping, leaping, jumping, galloping, and stretching.

Recommended dance-wear is any colored leotard and tights with a skirt(optional). Preferred footwear are black ballet shoes, which are available for purchase at our school. (Black ballet shoes will be worn for showcases and recitals)

Jazz

Jazz is characterized by powerful, energetic movement and music making this style appropriate for boys and girls wanting to increase self-awareness, confidence, and freedom of movement. Students will learn techniques such as spotting, turns, kicks and leaps; jazz progressions that lead from beginning through advanced.

A jazz dance class covers the many styles: Clasical Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Commercial Jazz, Latin Jazz, Musical Theater Jazz.

Recommended dance-wear is form-fitting, spandex-style clothing (this enables teachers to easily view body lines and technique). Black jazz shoes are available for purchase at our school.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Hip Hop/Street Dance

Hip hop is known for its strength of expression and 'street feel'. This style is great for students looking to develop social dance skills, confidence, and stage presence. Age-appropriate music combined with entertaining choreography make it a favorite. Students will learn choreography with isolations and locked movement.

Hip hop classes wear loose fitting street clothes or regular dancewear and black jazz shoes or clean, black, flat-soled shoes. Note: Regular street shoes are not permitted on the studio floors.

Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet is any of the traditional formal styles of ballet. It is known for its aesthetics and rigorous technique.

Classical Ballet follows traditional technique, such as barre, center, adagio, petite and grand allegro, and combinations/choreography. It is generally accompanied by classical music.

Combination classes in the 1st and 2nd grades will teach ballet basics and prepare the dancer for the Classical Class beginning in the 3rd grade. Students hoping to attain Company status should prepare with a Classical Ballet class by the 3rd grade in addition to other classes.

Note: pointe work is considered an advanced form of ballet and is only allowed for students older than age eleven who have carefully trained and have the teacher’s recommendation.

Grades 3-12 have a BALLET DRESS CODE: black leotard, pink tights, black skirt, hair secured off face in a bun. Black ballet shoes are available for purchase at our school. At Company level, pink ballet shoes are required.

CHEER/TUMBLING

Hailing from scholastic sports environments, cheer promotes a team effort in a lively class. Cheer movements are clean, jazz-like including kicks, jumps, and synchronized movement; focusing on flexibility, muscle development, tumbling, and energetic routines.

Our rec cheer classes will give students proper tumbling technique and opportunities to perform without the commitment required for competitive cheer teams. Training is progressive, building on students’ strengths. These classes offer a great way to expand skills for dancers.

Recommend form-fitting, spandex-style clothing, hair in ponytail or braid, and white cheer shoes. (Shoes can be found at omnicheer.com and are the Chasse Apex style).

Soaring Starz

(Grades 4-6)

Soaring Starz Company works to develop skills in many forms of dance; primarliy focusing on classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, musical theater, and hip hop. It is for dancers ages 9-12 (grades 4-6). These students are required to take either Ballet Fusion or Ballet Forte (both are classical ballet classes) in combination with the Soaring Starz Company class. Most in this group also take a hip hop class.

COMPANY

(Dancers ages 12-18)

Company members work to develop skills in many forms of dance, and primarily focus on jazz, classical ballet, contemporary, musical theater, and hip hop.

Our dancers strive for excellence, and being a Company member is the culmination of years of hard work! Company members dance an average of 6-8 hours per week. Dancers develop strong friendships as they work side by side, year after year.

Performance opportunities, and opportunities to assist teachers in other classes are part of being a Company member.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our Company, you may contact our office to audition. Team tuition and expenses are handled differently than the majority of the studio. Information is available to prospective team members upon request.
